About the Central Coast
This is an astonishingly beautiful stretch of California’s Central Coast—a land of sea breezes, spectacular ocean sunsets, miles of sandy beaches, and acres of rolling hillsides. But, the landscape isn’t the only aspect of the county offering astonishing variety to visitors. Visitor attractions abound in San Luis Obispo County; from windswept sand dunes to grapevine-filled valleys; from historic villages to quaint beach towns.

The southern portion of San Luis Obispo County is made up of the Five Cities area (Pismo Beach/Shell Beach, Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach and Oceano), Avila Beach and Nipomo.
San Luis Obispo is at the heart of California’s magnificent Central Coast. The city is sheltered by volcanic peaks a few miles from the Pacific Ocean and is surrounded by abundant protected open space, beyond which stretch vineyards, agricultural country and ranch land. SLO anchors the San Luis Obispo North Coast Byway, a stretch of world-famous Highway 1 that has been federally designated an All-American Road.
